Kooyonga Golf Club is a wonderful example of a championship golf course in undulating sand hills just 15 minutes from the central business district of Adelaide. Kooyonga has been the venue for many international and interstate championships. It’s undeniably one of the best golf courses in Australia.

Ben Hook from the Sunday Mail and Royal Adelaide Teaching Professional Daniel Blackwell enjoy their early morning out at Kooyonga reviewing holes 2, 8 and 14.

Reviewed: 2nd hole 450m Par 5

A fascinating shortish par 5 where a solid drive will make this hole reachable in 2 shots. You will have to think about every shot though as laying up might be the best option. Be wary of the two bunkers guarding the green.

A beautiful hole this one and the lads play it well. The hole dog legs left, with a fairway in the landing area that slopes severely away to the right making it hard to keep your tee shot up the preferred left side where you can get a look at the green with your second. From the right you are faced with a blind second shot with a mid to long iron depending on the wind. The green is very small and elevated, and with two well placed bunkers short left and right, is one of the most difficult greens on the course to hit in regulation.

Reviewed: 14th hole 145m Par 3

Perhaps the signature hole of Kooyonga. This windblown par 3 has a sheltered tee, and an exposed green, rendering club selection exquisitely difficult. Deep bunkers surround the green with a steep slope over the back. This is a fantastic hole on a world class course.
