Ormsby, Hook, Cooke & Blackwell @ Royal Adelaide GC

Internationally acclaimed and ranked in the top ten in Australia and top 100 Golf Courses in the world, Royal Adelaide is an enjoyable playing experience for the club golfer as well as being a truely demanding test for the seasoned professional, especially off the championship tees.

Ben Hook from the Sunday Mail and Royal Adelaide Teaching Professional Daniel Blackwell were relegated to caddying and filming duties for the review of the 3rd and 11th holes by South Australian Touring Professionals Wade Ormsby and Peter Cooke.

Ormsby who is playing on the European tour is ranked 216 in the official world golf rankings and Cooke who plays on the China Tour is ranked 672.

Both players who when not touring spend many hours honing their skills on the Royal Adelaide practice range, offered their time to test both holes starting with the 269m Par 4, 3rd hole.

This hole is the only hole on the course which remains faithful to the original design of Dr Alister Mackenzie. The short par 4 hole offers the possibility of an eagle two to the brave, but with the possibility of a quite disastrous score.

Ormsby plays 2-hybrid off the tee, while Cooke decides to go for home…..watch to see who comes up trumps on this spectacular hole.

The 350m Par 4, 11th hole is regarded by most as Royal Adelaide’s signature hole. A strong tee shot is required to ensure an easier second shot onto the green, set within a sand crater, offering an amphitheatre like setting around the green.

Ormsby decides to play 3-wood off the tee while it’s an iron for Cooke. After well-positioned drives, both approach the green with a 7 iron.  With the cameras rolling, per se, something special happens on this hole - take a look here...
